Two Websites, One Goal

You are currently on the I am Second KC website. Not to be confused with the main website www.iamsecond.com. This site is dedicated to individuals and ministries in Kansas City and the surrounding region wanting to use I am Second as a tool to reach beyond the four walls of the church. You’ll find helpful info on the strategy, training, resources and opportunities to get involved with the I am Second movement.

It was just an idea…
one that was God-breathed.

It started as a conviction in the heart of Norm Miller, Chairman of the Board for Interstate Batteries. Impressed by John 12:32, Norm was looking for ways to “lift up Christ” in the Dallas-Ft Worth area. A thought turned into a conversation with e3 Partners Ministry. Out of that was born the I am Second movement; an integrated outreach campaign with a website where visitors can experience the stories of transformed lives and connect with local churches.

In December of 2008, I am Second billboards started to appear along major freeways in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area followed by provocative television and radio commercials blanketing the region. The marketing, along with the engaging films, all centered around the simple phrase…I Am Second, began to generate a buzz; Christ was being lifted up in a way that created intrigue and curiosity!

Apparently God had a bigger vision. Within days the films on the website spread across the US and around the world. There have been over 5 million visits to the website, from all 50 States and 218 countries. More than 60 video stories along with a complete set of small group tools are available online.

Thousands of churches and ministries are using the videos in creative ways and over 700 I am Second small groups have been formed. People are being moved and inspired by the stories and seeking answers. More importantly individuals, churches and ministries are beginning to use I am Second as a tool to engage in spiritual conversations with people in everyday life.

A group from Kansas City began to explore how they could use I am Second to reach beyond the four walls of the church. After nearly two years of working, praying, sharing, training and raising funds, I am Second KC was launched on March 31, 2011 at a special gathering at Union Station with over 800 people in attendance representing 175 churches. Two weeks later the billboards along with television and radio ads began to appear across the Kansas City area creating curiosity around those three simple words, “I am Second.”

Surely God has brought us together for such a time as this. Congregations all across the region are demonstrating that together we are one, together we care and it’s not about being first but rather putting Christ first, sharing our stories and loving others. That’s the heart of I am Second. It’s not an event. It’s a three-year campaign that any believer and every church can use to reach beyond the four walls of their church.

Look Who’s Talking

"The folks at Calvary Chapel are wearing the IAS bracelets and we have seen people come to salvation and become a part of our Church simply because of conversations that started from people asking "what does that mean."
